Advisor, People’s Tribunal on the World Bank, convened by the Indian People’s Tribunal on Environmental and Human Rights.

People’s Tribunal on Communalism in India: March – June 2007
Service on Jury and Coordinator of the Orissa Panel. Offered depositions on Hindu nationalism and human rights violations in Orissa and diasporic Hindu nationalism in the United States to the People’s Tribunal on Communalism in India, convened by the Indian People’s Tribunal on Environmental and Human Rights.

Coalition Against Genocide: 2005 – 2008
Founding Member. Advocacy in the aftermath of the mass violence in Gujarat in 2002 against the Muslim community, and the leadership and material support provided by Hindu nationalists and the local state government.

Coalition Against Communalism: 2002 – 2008
Networking and organizing to challenge increasing Hindu majoratarianism in India and related activities of Hindu nationalist organizations in the US.

Network for Responsible River Development: 2001 – 2002
Networking and advocacy for the rights of marginalized communities to water, and responsible development of river and other water resources in the Global South, connected to assessing environmental and social capacities of large dams.

Project Coordinator, Subgroup on Human Rights, New Mexico State University: September 2000 – June 2001
Project: Reviewing Nike’s Code of Conduct and Labor Practices. Initiated in September 2000, this project was conceptualized as a 13-country effort, including with academic institutions, trade unions, and activists. Responsibilities included drafting research participatory agendas and methods.

Network for Social and Environmental Justice in South and Southeast Asia and Newly Independent States: 1999 – 2000
Strategic planning linking social action with environmental justice in member countries. Through the Earth Island Institute’s Project Director’s group, facilitated the development of alliance building strategies linking North-South issues on natural resource management and development processes, and advocacy and policy measures to make visible local priorities and needs.

Committee for Program Development, International Development Exchange, San Francisco: April – August 1993
Assisted the Overseas Program Director on decision making processes and evolving criteria for accessing the viability and funding of international community-based development projects.

Peace Action. Gulf Peace Team, New Delhi: January – September 1991
Undertook advocacy, and co-coordinated and organized the Delhi Chapter of the anti-Gulf war and post- war efforts for peace diplomacy involving 20 groups within India and fifteen countries around the globe.

Committee for the Prevention of Accidental Nuclear War: November 1990
Swedish Initiative for the Prevention of Risks Against Accidental Nuclear War, Stockholm. Participated in the conference in Stockholm organized by the Socialist and Green Party Members of Parliament. Participated in ongoing campaigns for Nuclear Peace, and coordinated efforts in India.

Committee for Citizen Diplomacy in India (In association with PeaceQuest, Sweden): 1989 – 1991
Served on the committee for youth involvement in peace and alliance building activities in India during 1989-91. Facilitated multicultural workshops for global peace, sustainable development, alliance building, and citizen diplomacy with youth in Mexico, India, Russia, Sweden, and the US.

Narmada Bachao Andolan (Save the Narmada River Movement): 1989 – 1992
Narmada Bachao Andolan (Save the Narmada River Movement), New Delhi. Organized, undertook advocacy, and campaigned for the movement, and assisted with researching and editing the campaign newsletter.

Rehabilitation Committee for Youth Drug Recovery Programs, Young Woman’s Christian Association and Sahara House, New Delhi: 1986 -1990
Trained and worked as a counselor, and designed and conducted alliance building workshops with youth and adults on a drug recovery program.

Relief, Rehabilitation, and Advocacy for Survivors of Violence: 1984 – 1986
Campaign and relief work with Sikh victims and survivors, New Delhi. Worked in relief camps for homeless and displaced women who were impacted by the pervading gendered and sexualized violence during the Hindu nationalist and state targeting and massacre of the Sikh community in Delhi in October – November 1984. In 1985, participated in organizing relief and educational measures, such as street plays, lectures, support groups in Delhi, to address issues of state and sub-state violence as it impacted the Sikh community, and assisted with transcriptions for a book project by Uma Chakravarti and Nandita Haksar on survivor narratives.
